Sacha Bulthuis
Biography
Sacha Bulthuis (born Alexandra Paula Maria Bulthuis) was a highly respected Dutch stage and film actress. Born into an artistic family in Doorn, her father Rico Bulthuis was a well-known writer, journalist, and puppeteer. She discovered her passion for performing early on, eventually training at the Amsterdam Theater School in the late 1960s. Bulthuis became a defining face of Dutch theater, spending decades as a prominent member of the prestigious Toneelgroep De Appel ensemble in The Hague. Throughout her illustrious stage career, she received the prestigious Theo d'Or award twice—first in 1974 for Een vleug honing and again in 1993 for Groot en klein. Beyond her extensive theatrical legacy, she transitioned seamlessly into cinema and television. She gained wide recognition for her roles in critically acclaimed Dutch films such as Fons Rademakers' Max Havelaar (1976), AmnesiA (2001), Little Crumb (1999), and the thriller TBS (2008). She was previously married to fellow theater director and actor Aus Greidanus, with whom she had children who also followed in their acting footsteps. Sacha Bulthuis passed away from cancer in 2009 at the age of 61.
