
The Adventures of Robin Hood
The legendary character Robin Hood and his band of merry men in Sherwood Forest and the surrounding vicinity. While some episodes dramatised the traditional Robin Hood tales, most episodes were original dramas created by the show's writers and producers.

1. The Coming of Robin Hood
Air Date: 1955-09-26
Robin of Locksley has been fighting in the crusades in the Holy Land for many years, and when he arrives home again, he finds a sorry situation. Prince John is trying to seize power, and the Normans are in control everywhere. Even Robin's own land has been seized by a Norman knight. Where can he look for friends?

2. The Moneylender
Air Date: 1955-10-03
Robin and Edgar lighten the load of a greedy and dishonest moneylender, Herbert of Doncaster , by taking his purse full of money, and giving the contents of it back to the poor villagers and farmers from whom he had taken it. Will Scatlock, the outlaws' leader, is mortally wounded, and with his dying breath he passes the leadership of his band of men to Robin Hood.

3. Dead or Alive
Air Date: 1955-10-10
Little John escapes from the bondage of his feudal lord, but is caught in a tavern by the Sheriff's men. The sergeant offers him his freedom if he will go into Sherwood Forest and bring back an outlaw. Little John agrees, and in the forest meets Robin Hood for the first time.

4. Friar Tuck
Air Date: 1955-10-17
Friar Tuck calls on Robin to help the course of true love run smoothly. A young girl in love with a yeoman has sought sanctuary with the Friar after discovering that the lord of the manor has a different suitor in mind for her. Disguised as a monk, Robin sets out to help.

5. Maid Marian
Air Date: 1955-10-24
The waylaying of a courier by the outlaws has a surprising result - for Robin - who finds himself in a perilous position. Maid Marian is suspected of being an enemy of the outlaws.

6. A Guest for the Gallows
Air Date: 1955-10-31
The Sheriff has sentenced a peasant, Will Stutely, to death. Robin disguises himself as a butcher, and plans to get an interview with the Sheriff by starting a riot - but what good will that do?

7. The Challenge
Air Date: 1955-11-07
The Sheriff thinks one of his men is the best archer in the land. Sir Richard of the Lea says he knows of someone even better - Robin - and a contest is arranged. The outcome is never in doubt, but Sir Richard soon has cause to regret that he ever supported Robin.

8. Queen Eleanor
Air Date: 1955-11-14
The Queen Mother, Eleanor of Acquitaine, arrives in Nottingham on a mission to collect money in aid of King Richard's was against the Saracens. The Sheriff, after making a generous donation, plots to waylay the party and get his money back, but Marian persuades the Queen to let Robin help her.

9. Checkmate
Air Date: 1955-11-21
The Count de Waldern makes himself unpopular with Robin when he makes advances to Maid Marian. The Count invites her to dinner, but he finds he has two uninvited guests.

10. The Ordeal
Air Date: 1955-11-28
Edgar, one of the outlaws, is falsely accused by the Sheriff of the murder of Jack the Wagoner. He must submit to trial by ordeal - by plucking an iron bar from a boiling caldron.

11. A Husband for Marian
Air Date: 1955-12-05
When a rather unpleasant knight wants to marry Marian for her dowry, Robin has to act, and disguises himself as a wealthy German baron.

12. The Highlander
Air Date: 1955-12-12
A Highland visitor to Sherwood Forest is regarded with suspicion by Robin, especially when he is seen to burgle a treasure cave. Who is he, and what is he up to?

13. The Youngest Outlaw
Air Date: 1955-12-19
A young boy tells Robin that he is a page in Waldern Castle, but wants to join the outlaws. How can Robin refuse, when he finds out how important the 'page' really is?

14. The Betrothal
Air Date: 1955-12-26
Sir Richard of the Lea, in seeking approval to get his son married off to the lovely Lady Gladys, enlists Robin's help to persuade her father that his son is suitable.

15. The Alchemist
Air Date: 1956-01-02
A poor woman has been accused of witchcraft for smelting gold coins from stolen plates, and is under sentence of death to be burned at the stake. At least, that was the Sheriff's plan before Robin appeared with a clever ruse.

16. The Jongleur
Air Date: 1956-01-09
A strolling minstrel leads Little John and Robin into a trap laid by the Sheriff, but he later discovers on which side justice lies.

17. The Brothers
Air Date: 1956-01-16
Robin is called on to aid two brothers, one of whom wants to become a priest. They are both fleeing the Sheriff of Nottingham, and Robin sends them to an abbot. However, they are caught, and the would-be priest is thrown into prison. Can Robin rescue him and help him take his vows?

18. The Intruders
Air Date: 1956-01-23
Friendly villagers have turned against Robin and the outlaws after being robbed by two students claiming to be Robin's men. To win back their confidence, he must find the thieves.

19. The Sheriff's Boots
Air Date: 1956-01-30
The Sheriff of Nottingham prides himself on being well dressed - even down to his boots. His own bootmakers don't seem to be doing a good job, but what would he say if he knew that he was wearing outlaw boots?

20. Errand of Mercy
Air Date: 1956-02-06
While delivering herbs to fight an epidemic of St Anthony's Fire, Robin and Little John are recognised by a beggar, and are in danger.

21. The Vandals
Air Date: 1956-02-13
A man is found murdered in Sherwood Forest, and the arrow that killed him is sworn to be Robin's. Local looting in the village is also being blamed on him, so Robin must find the vandals, in order to clear his name.

22. Richard the Lion-Heart
Air Date: 1956-02-20
King Richard has arrived back in England and is traveling in disguise to establish which Lords and Barons are loyal to John and who Richard can count on. He instructs Marion to undertake a dangerous mission.

23. Ladies of Sherwood
Air Date: 1956-02-27
Arthur of Tetsbury is to be hanged for keeping money from King Richard's crusade, instead of paying it in taxes to Prince John. The Sheriff suspects Robin will try to rescue him, and frobids anyone to enter or leave the city. But a woman's robes can hide even a man's Lincoln Green.

24. Will Scarlet
Air Date: 1956-03-05
Will Scarlet has an eye for the girls, and this lands him in trouble with the Sheriff's men. Robin comes to the rescue, but Will's willingness to trust everyone is still liable to land him in trouble.

25. The Deserted Castle
Air Date: 1956-03-12
Marian takes Robin to an ancient and deserted castle, where he is shocked to see the Queen Mother waiting for him. She has a mission for him that will be of tremendous service to England in general and King Richard in particular in denying an alliance between Prince John and King Phillip of France.

26. The Miser
Air Date: 1956-03-19
When Robin hears that the villagers have been charged double taxes, he decides to teach miserly Sir William de Courcier a lesson. Robin pretends to be helpful, but the miser soon learns the error of his ways.

27. Trial by Battle
Air Date: 1956-03-26
Marian is arrested and sent for trial, suspected of murder, after the King's Commissioner is killed with a dagger of hers. But it's a strange trial, because two men have to fight, and only if her defender wins is she proved innocent.

28. Children of the Greenwood
Air Date: 1956-04-02
When the freeman Arthur A'Bland flees from a false accusation of murder that means imprisonment and death, his children, Alice & Oswald, are seized by Lord FitzUrse. In the great castle they are treated harshly at the hands of the lord and his menials. A'Bland joins the outlaws, and together they decide on a rescue.

29. The May Queen
Air Date: 1956-04-09
The May Queen is being made to marry a man she does not love, but a tournament has been arranged, and perhaps under cover of the jousting, Robin will be able to do something.

30. The Wanderer
Air Date: 1956-04-16
Derwent the outlaw makes a friend to whom he will be everlastingly grateful. Sir Walter de Lys discovers that there is such a thing as hygiene, after a healer called Joseph cures him by unconventional means, which riles the other healers in Nottingham. Then the Sheriff takes a hand...

31. The Byzantine Treasure
Air Date: 1956-04-23
Robin unknowingly steals Queen Eleanor's silver Byzantine plates, which were being transported undercover by a monk through Sherwood. Marian involves their friend Sir Richard of the Lea, but Sir Richard, as ever, has many debts to pay off and uses the plates to show how wealthy he is. Soon the Sheriff's lieutenant takes an interest. Robin must hold him off before the Archbishop arrives to take the plates to their rightful owner.

32. Secret Mission
Air Date: 1956-04-30
A mysterious hooded pilgrim, Peregrinus the palmer, seems anxious to make the acquaintance of the outlaws, and proves himself a worthy friend when he shows how well he can use a bow. But he asks awkward questions about their loyalty to King Richard.

33. The Inquisitor
Air Date: 1956-05-07
Friar Tuck is captured and taken to the local Abbey for questioning by the visiting archbishop. Robin works with Little John to develop a rescue plan to save Friar Tuck.

34. Tables Turned
Air Date: 1956-05-14
When Derwent overhears some messengers talk about the "jewels" they're guarding, he devises a plan to steal the shipment, and successfully carries it out, only to discover that the "jewels" are two small children, who prove to be more than a nuisance. Soon the tables are turned, however.

35. The Traitor
Air Date: 1956-05-21
King Richard is held prisoner in Austria and Robin must ensure the safe passage of the ransom money to the coast, but one of the three lords who brought it to Marian's castle is a potential traitor.

36. The Thorkil Ghost
Air Date: 1956-05-28
Harold of Thorkil Castle insists he is being haunted by a vicious Viking ghost. At least that's what he tells Robin, but Robin doesn't believe in ghosts.

37. The Knight Who Came to Dinner
Air Date: 1956-06-04
A penniless knight, Sir Richard of the Lea, has mortgaged his estate to the abbot, and cannot repay his debt. The outlaws lend him the sum he needs. To ensure they get their money back, Robin sends Friar Tuck to the abbey in the guise of Sir Richard's squire.

38. The Wager
Air Date: 1956-06-11
When Robin bets Friar Tuck that he can obtain more money by begging than the Friar can by other means, he encounters the unsavory members of the Beggars guild, and Norman soldiers also make things very difficult.

39. The Prisoner
Air Date: 1956-07-09
Prince John has issued a decree that King Richard is dead and that he will be crowned King. Robin disbelieves this, and sets to work to discover the truth. Robin and Marian head to London and the Prince's palace to stop the coronation taking place, by proving King Richard still lives. Robin must free the King's messenger held in John's dungeon in time.

1. A Village Wooing
Air Date: 1956-10-01
Robin tries to help Wat Longfellow (Leslie Phillips), who became an outlaw to escape a life of indentured servitude, win the hand of the independent widow Winifred, but the wily Bailiff Baldwin also desires her.

2. The Scientist
Air Date: 1956-10-08
Robin attempts to help Monk Albertus, a scientist who is accused of withholding secrets about a dangerous weapon.

3. Blackmail
Air Date: 1956-10-15
By chance, a stranger hidden in a cart overhears a conversation between Robin and Marian. Is it enough to blackmail the outlaw of Sherwood Forest? Robin impersonates the Sheriff to turn the tables on the blackmailer.

4. A Year and a Day
Air Date: 1956-10-22
Under Medieval English law, a peasant who escapes serfdom and lives in a city for "a year and a day" is a free man, given the man lives openly, not in hiding. Surgeon Calend has nearly completed that duration, and only has to remain 'at large' until sunset that day and he will be free.

5. The Goldmaker
Air Date: 1956-10-29
Sir Richard of the Lea has a lot of very nice pewter plate, and when an 'alchemist' comes along and says he can turn it into gold, Sir Richard is taken in. How can Robin outwit the 'goldmaker' without attracting the attention of the Sheriff?

6. The Imposters
Air Date: 1956-11-05
Lady Pomfret's husband hasn't returned from the Crusades for seven years, and under the law he is deemed to be dead. Her cousin LeBlonde has arrived to take possession of her estate, but an imposter, or two, might help in this situation.

7. Ransom
Air Date: 1956-11-12
Five hundred crowns is a great deal of money, but that's the sum demanded from the villagers by Count Severne to pay a ransom for the return of his son. Edwin, spokesman of the serfs, appeals to Robin for help.

8. Isabella
Air Date: 1956-11-19
Prince John is planning to divorce his wife, Princess Avice of Gloucester, to marry a French Princess, Lady Isabella of Angouleme. Princess Avice ask Robin for help.

9. The Hero
Air Date: 1956-11-26
The Sherriff's brother, Sir Montichet, an unpopular tax collector is killed. Mark, an opportunist thief sees the murder, and is blamed for it. Robin welcomes him into his band, but the Sheriff plans to hang eight villagers unless Mark gives himself up.

10. The Haunted Mill
Air Date: 1956-12-03
Sir William tries to acquire Tom the Miller's flour mill by underhand means, ascribing a series of misfortunes to the 'Little People'. Friar Tuck doesn't believe this falsehood, and asks Robin for help.

11. The Black Patch
Air Date: 1956-12-10
Sir Dunstan of Travers, a guest of Maid Marian, discloses to her his vow to wear a black patch over one eye until he has captured Robin Hood. She hurries off to warn Robin, and almost falls into a cleverly laid trap.

12. Outlaw Money
Air Date: 1956-12-17
To help the villagers of Lotham, who are being very heavily taxed, Robin supplies table silver to the silversmith and Master of the Nottingham Mint, to melt down into coin for the starving villagers. Unknown to Robin, the Sheriff already suspects the silversmith is in sympathy with King Richard. When the villagers try to spend them at the market, they are denounced as counterfeit and Friar Tuck is arrested and put on trial for forgery.

13. The Friar's Pilgrimage
Air Date: 1956-12-24
Robin realizes with winter coming on that there is a shortage of honey for the Merry Men. He decides to join Tuck on a journey to Canterbury to so he can locate a supply of honey and allow Tuck to complete his religious pilgrimage. At Canterbury, they find a local maid, Alice, accused of witchcraft, saving her from drowning by the Count Duprez's soldiers. Robin and Friar Tuck uncover a plot by the Count against Lady Margaret.

14. The Trap
Air Date: 1956-12-31
Sir Simon, and agent of Prince John, goes undercover as a cobbler named Jack. He pretends to be mistreated by the Sheriff, in a plan to join Robin's band, and to turn the outlaws against Robin. 'Jack' lays black rumours of Robin robbing clerics and taking money from the King's ransom and betraying Tom of Guant, now residing in the Sheriff's dungeon.

15. Hubert
Air Date: 1957-01-07
Lady Rowena is being forced to marry a local nobleman, De Vere. Sir Hubert is determined to storm the castle single-handed, to save Rowena, his true love. Robin is soon at work on his behalf.

16. The Dream
Air Date: 1957-01-14
Marian's cousin Sir William Fitzwalter arrives in Sherwood with a message from Queen Eleanor regarding the King's ransom in Austria, but Marian has a forbidding dream of warning and Robin must determine the truth behind his claims and Marian's fears.

17. The Blackbird
Air Date: 1957-01-21
After being embarrassed by his fellow outlaws over his romantic feelings for Joan, Little John leaves the Blue Boar Inn in ill humour and is caught by the Sheriff's soldiers. He is captured and taken to the Sheriff who sentences him to be hanged.

18. The Shell Game
Air Date: 1957-01-28
Robin's men are annoyed when he gives refuge to Pick, a confidence trickster, who specialises in a shell trick, which makes him rather unpopular with the men. Robin uses him in a plan to collect some jewels for King Richard's campaign in France.

19. The Final Tax
Air Date: 1957-02-04
Tom Joyner, a serf, is supposed to be dying, and Sir Charles intends collecting the tax to which he is legally entitled if one of his villagers dies. Imposing the tax, means Sir Charles is entitled to any of Tom's goods and chattels, which will leave the serf's family penniless. Tom, however, was only stunned and Friar Tuck devises a plan to thwart the rascally Lord Bailiff.

20. Ambush
Air Date: 1957-02-11
The young Prince Arthur of Brittany, who is the rightful heir to the throne of England, has fallen into the clutches of his uncle, the evil Prince John. Prince John and the Sheriff devise a way to keep Robin and his band out of the way, while they put into action an ambush plan, involving phoney outlaws, that will lead to the deaths of prince Arthur and Lady Marian. Robin and his men set out to develop a plan to rescue the young boy.

21. The Bandit of Brittany
Air Date: 1957-02-18
Robin and Friar Tuck escort Prince Arthur and the Duchess Constance to Chateau Marmont in France for safety. There they make a discovery, of a French 'Robin Hood' called Jacques Chapeau. Jacques captures the prince, intending to use him as ransom for his brother imprisoned in Paris.

22. The Goldmaker's Return
Air Date: 1957-02-25
Lepidus, the Alchemist, still held prisoner by the Sheriff, has promised to make gold for him in return for his freedom. The Sheriff, dubious of his claim after being kept waiting for six weeks, threatens that he will hang him in seven days time unless his alchemy begins to work. As Robin is away in France it is up to Marian to come up with a plan to satisfy the Sheriff and save Lepidus from being hanged.

23. Flight from France
Air Date: 1957-03-04
While waiting for a boat to take them back to England, Robin spots Sir Roderick, an emissary of Prince John, disguised as a wine merchant, collecting gold for the Prince. Robin and Friar Tuck contact the French underground via the waitress at the "Black Rabbit" Inn, Michelle, for help in uncovering the plot. Robin decides to take Sir Roderick's place, and seize the gold for King Richard, but the plan goes wrong.

24. The Secret Pool
Air Date: 1957-05-11
While fishing in a secret pool—a tributary that leads directly to Sir Cedric's private lake—Robin and Marian see Sir Cedric's men arresting a poor, hungry serf for poaching eels from Cedric's lake. Marian goes to Cedric to plead for the man's release, while Robin decides to take a different tactic, one involving Cedric's obsession for fishing.

25. Fair Play
Air Date: 1957-03-18
'The Flying Four' are a Bavarian acrobatic team, and they come through Sherwood Forest on their way to Nottingham Fair. Naturally, they are waylaid by the outlaws, but when they are found to be harmless, they are treated as guests. It is then that the Men of Sherwood get their Great Idea. Three of Robin's men travel undercover as part of the group of. A greedy Gypsy fortune teller betrays them to the Sheriff of Nottingham, who immediately arrests them. Robin, on his return from France, must break them out before they are executed.

26. The Dowry
Air Date: 1957-03-25
Master Judd, a wealthy London merchant and his beautiful daughter Bess are on their way to Sir Harold of Nottingham with a dowry of one thousand gold crowns. Garth, one of the outlaws, reports their presence to Robin, who arranges to relieve them of their gold - a crime which incurs the Sheriff's wrath and spells further trouble for outlaws.

27. The York Treasure
Air Date: 1957-04-01
Joseph of Cordoba and a young friend, Esther, escape from York with the York Treasure, a sum of money raised by friends to pay the passage of a shipload of refugees landing at Grimsby. When Joseph is wounded, Robin, Little John and Esther head for the coast with the hate-mongering Malbete in pursuit.

28. The Borrowed Baby
Air Date: 1957-04-08
The Count of Severne tells the Sheriff that his gold has been taken by Robin Hood. He also suspects Maid Marian. The Sheriff disbelieves this, but agrees to put the Count's suspicions to the test — he borrows a baby girl to abandon in Sherwood Forest and trap Marian when the outlaws pass the baby to her.

29. The Black Five
Air Date: 1957-04-15
Robin and his archenemy, the Sheriff of Nottingham, set aside their differences temporarily to work together to rid Nottingham of the Duke DeMoreville, a murderous psychopath whom the terrified citizenry refers to as "The Hangman of Leicester", who is sending five black pearls to Prince John for the Sheriff's head.

30. Food for Thought
Air Date: 1957-04-22
Count Olivier has levied a new tax, taking so much food from the people of Upper Minton that they may starve. Robin captures the food from the tax collector and must return it to the villagers without the Count knowing.

31. Too Many Earls
Air Date: 1957-04-29
The outlaws of Sherwood are desperately in need of money. Marian's uncle,, the Earl of Rochdale, is quarreling with the Earl of Northgate, and Marian suggests an archery match to decide the matter. She hopes Robin will be able to shoot for her uncle, but first they must hoodwink the Sheriff. Robin obtains a letter of safe conduct signed by the Sheriff, by Loud Lawrence impersonating the Earl.

32. Highland Fling
Air Date: 1957-05-06
Robin and Friar Tuck go on a mission to Scotland, to collect five hundred gold crowns owed to King Richard by the treacherous King William the Lion, but they find the Scots suspicious. They encounter the outlaw Duncan of Stoneykirk, who wants a share of the money after saving Robin.

33. The Mystery of Ireland's Eye
Air Date: 1957-05-13
Robin and Friar Tuck go with Marian to an island off the coast of Ireland, where they suspect her uncle, Sir Edward de Courcy, is being held prisoner. They find the local people terrorised by the pagan priest, Rolfe, and the power of Thor. Marian is taken prisoner to be sacrificed with her uncle unless Robin and Tuck can discredit Rolfe.

34. The Little People
Air Date: 1957-05-20
Robin and Friar Tuck are escorting Marian back home from Ireland, after rescuing her uncle. They are making their way to Cork harbour and a boat back to England, when a storm forces them to stay in the barn of a Pat and Maeve Nolan. When the couple's home is burnt down, the trio are accused and to stop them being hanged, Robin claims kinship with "the little people" – leprechauns, and he and Tuck are given 24 hours to bring back proof of their existence, with Marian as hostage.

35. The Infidel
Air Date: 1957-05-27
During King Richard's crusade, Ali ben Azra, one of the hated Saracens is captured and brought to England. In their turn, the Saracens capture Lord Rossmore and hold him hostage against Ali's safe return. Plans are made for the exchange, but Sir James Rossmore, nephew of Lord Rossmore, has other ideas. He has devised a plot that will enable him to inherit his uncle's fortune, placing the blame on the innocent Ali ben Azra. Robin decides to intervene.

36. The Frightened Tailor
Air Date: 1957-06-03
Ned Carter is travels from London to Nottingham, carrying a list of people loyal to King Richard. He stops at the place of the local tailor Ezekiel, but by accident, the cloak with the hidden list comes into the possession of the Sheriff of Nottingham. Ned and Ezekiel seek Robin's help to keep the list out of the hands of the Sheriff.

37. The Path of True Love
Air Date: 1957-06-10
According to Robin's father's will, when the Locksley Hall bell rings on Lady Day, if the tenant farmers of his estate have performed their tasks for three years, they will own their lands in perpetuity. However Sir Charles, the current occupant, has found a loophole to break the agreement, and so Robin has to sort out the situation.

38. The Road in the Air
Air Date: 1957-06-17
Once again, Sir William tries to part Tom the Miller from his flour mill, this time by charging a toll to use the road to the mill. When Robin hears about this, he thinks of a way to get the grain to the mill without anyone setting foot on Sir William's land.
39. Carlotta
Air Date: 1957-06-24
Little John has fallen for a Gypsy dancer, Carlotta, who is staying at the Blue Boar Inn. She also dances at the Sheriff's castle, and Robin wants to know the route of the next tax shipment bound for the coffers of Prince John. Little John asks the girl to obtain the information.

1. The Salt King
Air Date: 1957-09-30
Lord Guthrie 'steals' his own salt supplies to push the prices up and Robin is blamed. Robin and Little John obtain salt from the coast and Friar Tuck distributes it freely, until Lord Guthrie's partner, the Sheriff, confiscates it. Another plan is required, needing Roger of Antioch, a "salt diviner".

2. A Tuck in Time
Air Date: 1957-10-07
Edgar, Friar Tuck's twin brother, has returned from the East with a lethal weapon, the 'Devil Crackers', and is prepared to sell it to Prince John. But Marian, Robin and Friar Tuck plan to stop him.

3. Pepper
Air Date: 1957-10-14
Princess Irene of Byzantium, who has been held hostage by Prince John, is being returned home to Byzantium via Sherwood with Byzantine Ambassador Androclyse. She has fallen in love with Prince John and escapes back to London, using pepper to evade Robin. Robin has to convince the Princess not to marry John.

4. The Charter
Air Date: 1957-10-21
Lord Grenwald, dying, passes the location of a charter that will limit Prince John's power if he becomes King, on to his manservant Hulme . Marian informs Robin who must infiltrate Grenwald's last party, with the Sheriff present, at the castle of the Lord's nephew, Sir Bascomb.

5. Change of Heart
Air Date: 1957-10-28
Friar Tuck, now living in Tintern Abbey, sends for Robin's help against Lord Humphrey of Chepstow, who is planning to expel the Celts, led by Brack, from the Forest of Dean, where they have lived for centuries. Using the tribes 'fever brew', a hallucinogen, Robin plans to change place with Sir Humphrey to cause a change of heart.

6. Brother Battle
Air Date: 1957-11-04
Brother Wootan, a great believer in education, has been banished many times for teaching the children of serfs to read. Robin allows him to start a school in the forest, and one of the unwilling pupils is Little John. When Brother Battle is arrested by the Sheriff, the outlaws have to rescue him.

7. My Brother's Keeper
Air Date: 1957-11-11
Sir Loren is caught ill-treating a blacksmith, and is banished from his home by his father. Then Loren kills his young brother in the forest. Robin and Little John are the only witnesses, but knowing that they cannot risk giving evidence themselves, they seek a way to make Loren confess. They dress as mummers to perform the folk play for Lent (as Cain and Abel) in front of the Sheriff to draw out the murderous brother.

8. An Apple for the Archer

Mary Quartermaine, according to her father's will, has to marry the best bow-man in the land. Apple-grower Timothy Cox seeks to win the hand of Mary, against her Uncle's wishes, by beating Pierre of Bordeaux in an archery contest. Hopeless with the longbow, Robin lends a hand by teaching Timothy Cox to shoot an arrow well enough to win the lovely young woman as his bride.

9. The Angry Village
Air Date: 1957-11-25
During a drought, a group of villagers led by Jason are hiding grain in a cave; despite posting a lookout, soldiers from the castle appear without warning and confiscate it. Robin and Little John are hunting in the area, and as strangers, are blamed by the villagers. Jason seeks out Robin for help to find out how they were betrayed, before another innocent person is blamed by the villagers.

10. The Mark
Air Date: 1957-12-02
Barnaby Church is being rebuilt, creating much interest on Nottinghamshire. Walter, the master mason, is proud of his work, but Sir Blaise De Roche has plans to fortify the building, and holds Walter prisoner until he agrees to the modifications. The outlaws seek to rescue the mason to ensure the structure stays a holy one.

11. The Bride of Robin Hood

Brenda, a girl who has run away from her home to avoid a marriage to Walter Neville, proves herself a valiant archer in defence of Robin. After saving Robin from the Sheriff's men, she is voted a member of Robin's band. Brenda believes it her destiny to marry a hero Robin is railroaded into agreeing to marry her, after granting her a favour. Maid Marian is not amused, especially after being robbed by Brenda, and decides Robin must reunite Brenda with Walter, her betrothed.

12. To Be a Student
Air Date: 1957-12-16
Rolfe, to avoid his son Jack having to join Prince John's army, bribes Master Bement to make sure Friar Tuck's bright student Peter Larkin is taken instead. Robin ensures fair play.

13. The Christmas Goose
Air Date: 1957-12-23
Young Davey's goose, Matilda, nips a Lord's horse, causing him to be thrown. The Lord, Sir Leon, catches and puts the animal on trial, as he hopes to condemn the goose to death – for his Christmas dinner.

14. The Challenge of the Black Knight
Air Date: 1957-12-30
As a special treat on his 14th birthday, Will Dale, the son of Ned, a member of Robin's gang, meets Robin and goes hunting with Little John. A confrontation with the Black Knight, Sir Roger Fitzwilliam, leads to Will being kidnapped and Robin being challenged to a duel with the Knight.

15. The Rivals
Air Date: 1958-01-06
The Sheriff wants to charge a protection tax from travellers through Sherwood forest. Knowing this will be unpopular, he comes up with a rival outlaw gang, to rob and attack travellers, made up of prisoners. His Seneschal suggests the prisoners are led by Dick Banks. When Friar Tuck is robbed by a prisoner he knows, Robin has Tuck join the Nottingham traders guild to discover the Sheriff's plans that include betraying the robbers.

16. The Profiteer
Air Date: 1958-01-13
Andrew, a serf, arrives in Nottingham to obtain grain to feed the villagers of Lothan, as their crops have failed. The Lord of the Manor refuses to help, but Robin gives Andrew the money to buy the grain. Andrew impresses a grain farmer, Hodges, who is looking for a good man to marry his daughter, Margaret, thinking Andrew a 'freeman'. To buy his freedom, Andrew is tempted to sell the grain at a vast profit until Robin helps put things on the right path.

17. Knight Errant
Air Date: 1958-01-20
Marian wants to speak to Robin urgently. She tries to tell him that Sir Jack of Southwark has her father's permission to marry her. But Robin is so engrossed in his archery practice that that he will not take any notice. When Sir Jack arrives, Robin finds out the hard way.

18. The Healing Hand
Air Date: 1958-01-27
Oswald of the Healing Hand, a quack pedlar of phoney medicine, deceives Little John, when he suffers from indigestion. But the outlaw comes to grief when he defends the quack against Baron Barclay's tax collectors at Bingham fair and is imprisoned. Oswald and Robin plan to rescue Little John from his cell.

19. One Man's Meat
Air Date: 1958-02-03
Sir Edmund Woodstock demonstrates his 'Ambrosia Nova' (the Food of the Gods), which he thinks will replace all other food, to Thadeus Goldfinch, Robin and Friar Tuck. Goldfinch is unimpressed with it as human food, and his serfs on the same diet are weakening. Robin and Friar Tuck with the help of a donkey and Goldfinch's pigs find a more receptive audience for the foodstuff.

20. Too Many Robins
Air Date: 1958-02-10
Alma of the Golden Hind Inn is star struck for Robin Hood, so Tom the Thatcher tries to impress her by pretending to be her hero. The Sheriff's lieutenant is also interested in the girl. Robin and the band show Alma the 'reality' of everyday life in the outlaw camp.

21. The Crusaders
Air Date: 1958-02-17
Sir Alan Beaumont, a Crusader friend of Robin's, returns home just in time for a planned reunion with three other knights, with whom he and Robin fought with. But treachery awaits Robin in the castle of his old friend who has done a deal with the Sheriff to reclaim his castle forfeited while on the Crusades.

22. Castle in the Air
Air Date: 1958-02-24
The impoverished knight and friend of the outlaws, Sir Richard of the Lea, and his wife Lady Leonia, invite Robin and Marian to their 25th wedding anniversary. Sir Richard falls for a rigged game of dice, in which he loses the deeds to his castle to Sir Adrian. Robin tries to get the Sheriff to restore the status quo, but not before the Sheriff attempts to take the deeds.

23. The Double
Air Date: 1958-03-03
Prince John has ordered the Sheriff to kill Prince Arthur. Bolbec has found an exact double, Luke Tanner, for Robin Hood. The Sheriff hatches a plan for the double to kill the Prince. Lady Constance, Prince Arthur and their emissary arrive in Sherwood and meet Robin Hood, who knows of the plans from Friar Tuck and has to save the Prince.

24. Roman Gold
Air Date: 1958-03-10
Dr. Quince, an antiquarian friend of Robin's, is excavating the site of an old Roman villa. Robin and his men agree to lend a hand, in the hope of finding Roman gold. He is very successful until the news reaches the Sheriff, who wants the gold for himself. Derwent stumbles into a vault and discovers the treasure is more important than gold: Saint Paul's 1st letter to the Romans.

25. The Ghost That Failed
Air Date: 1958-03-17
Farmers led by Ralph are frightened off from digging storm ditches on Simon Dexter's land by ghosts. Robin sends Friar Tuck and Little John to exorcise the ghosts. Little John is shot with a crossbow, so Robin takes advantage to send the ghost of Little John to haunt Dexter.

26. At the Sign of the Blue Boar
Air Date: 1958-03-24
When a Tailor, Master William Blount covets the ownership of the Blue Boar Inn, the Sheriff places a 'head tax' on the owner Ulrich, forcing him to sell the Inn to Blount. In exchange, the Sheriff wants the Tailor to become an informer on Robin's outlaw gang. Robin, disguised as Sir Guy, puts matters straight.

27. Quickness of the Hand
Air Date: 1958-03-31
The Sheriff issues a notice of a reward of 750 crowns for the capture of Robin Hood alive. Three bored knights: Sir John, Sir Ralph and Sir Lawrence take up the offer and end up in Sherwood Forest disguised as magicians to perform a vanishing act: the capture of Robin Hood.

28. Elixir of Youth
Air Date: 1958-04-07
Sir Boland, in desperate need of money, promises the hand of his niece and ward, Lady Melissa, to Sir Louis de Panay, an elderly Norman, in spite of her being in love with Sir Boland's squire, Alwyn. Maid Marian and Friar Tuck determine to stop him. From Tuck, Robin deduces that Sir Louis wants to regain his lost youth, and Robin conjures a phoney story and 'Elixir of Youth' to sell to him.

29. The Genius
Air Date: 1958-04-14
The Abbot calls on Friar Tuck to take Master Nicodemus, a fellow monk and master mathematician, to safety in Sherwood. Prince John has heard of his ideas on mathematics in warfare and wishes to take advantage of them. Count de Severne has been sent to capture Nicodemus and has taken his brother hostage. Robin puts the monk's intelligence to work on a mighty weapon that wins the day.

30. The Youthful Menace
Air Date: 1958-04-21
Marian's cousin, the disinherited 16-year-old Edwin, arrived in Nottingham from France, but she is disappointed that he is scornful of her claims about Robin Hood's allegiance to King Richard. Edwin follows Marian to Robin's camp, but his presence becomes a threat to Robin's freedom.

31. The Minstrel
Air Date: 1958-04-28
Marian brings Roland the Minstrel, exiled from London for derogatory songs about Prince John, to Sherwood. Prince John and the Ambassador of Aragon are to sign a treaty, so the Sheriff locks up all strangers including the minstrel in order to avert any show of disrespect for authority in the area. Robin decides to use Roland's song about the Sheriff to his advantage, and soon all Nottingham is singing it. Robin rescues Roland and Friar Tuck organises the children to sing for the Ambassador.

32. The Doctor
Air Date: 1958-05-05
Little John breaks his leg escaping from the Sheriff's men. Robin and Friar Tuck carry him to the home of Sir George Woodley, who is being visited by an Italian doctor, Benvolio. Betrayed, the doctor and Little John are arrested. Robin and Tuck's rescue attempt succeeds in rescuing the doctor, but not Little John. The Sheriff is badly wounded by Robin Hood and a bargain is made by the doctor to save both Little John and the Sheriff.

33. The Lottery
Air Date: 1958-05-12
Two rafflers, Will Sharpe and his accomplice Frisby arrive in Nottingham, with a fixed lottery game. The Sheriff takes over the game, finding it a neat and foolproof way of raising money for Prince John. Robin, Marian and Tuck devise a plan to declare the Sheriff's lottery null and void and return the money to the people.

34. The Fire
Air Date: 1958-05-19
During a heatwave, the Sheriff's men corner Derwent and Little John in a cave. The Lieutenant's (Paul Eddington) attempt to smoke them out leads to a forest fire, forcing Robin and the Sheriff to work together in a truce to save Sherwood and Nottingham but the Sheriff's word is tested when Robin is trapped under a fallen branch.

35. Lincoln Green
Air Date: 1958-05-26
Simon Shanks, an ex-employee of Master Draper David, tries to sell inferior Lincoln green cloth to the outlaws, but his wares are rejected. In revenge, he reports their whereabouts to the Sheriff. Robin, Marian and Little John go to Lincoln, but Robin and Little John are captured by the Sheriff and imprisoned. Marian devises a plan to rescue them.

36. Women's War
Air Date: 1958-06-02
Noblewoman Anne De Brissac asks the outlaws to help her with a box full of gold she claims is intended for King Richard. But Marian informs Robin that the Lady is a spy for Prince John. Little John and Ned, who have gone to collect the gold, go missing. It is up to Marian to force the truth from Anne, before the Sheriff closes the trap.

37. Little Mother
Air Date: 1958-06-09
A trap is laid by the Duke of Retford to catch Little John when he receives a message that his mother, a serf of the Duke of Retford, is very ill. Despite Friar Tuck and Maid Marian's warning Little John is captured, but the brawny outlaw brings the house down about the plotter's ears.

38. Marian's Prize
Air Date: 1958-06-16
Marian enters an archery contest in place of Robin. Prince John, visiting Northeave village, ups the prize money to 20 crowns, hoping to draw in Robin Hood. Marian (disguised as "Martin") wins the contest, but Robin (disguised as "Hugh") is tempted and challenges Martin, not realising Prince John is waiting.

39. Farewell to Tuck
Air Date: 1958-06-30
The Sheriff has long suspected that Friar Tuck is in league with Robin Hood, and seizes an opportunity to get rid of him. The Sheriff tries to convince the Archbishop (Carl Bernard) to move Friar Tuck to another parish, but he doesn't bargain for the Archbishop's knowledge of Robin Hood, or his faith in Friar Tuck.

1. Sybella
Air Date: 1959-11-21
On his way to join King Richard in the Holy Land, the Earl of Steyne is ambushed by Baron Onslow, and killed. Onslow changes clothes with the dead Earl, and posing as him, rides to Nottingham, with the Earls' letter of introduction from Robin to the King. The Juggler Ali overhears Onslow plotting with the Sheriff to kill King Richard. Ali's partner Sybella, who has an amazing memory but can hardly speak English, tries to warn Robin.

2. The Flying Sorcerer
Air Date: 1959-11-28
Lord Giles of Richmond, in Nottingham to supervise the collection of outstanding taxes, sees an opportunity to increase his own wealth, when he sees Lord Eilmer, an elderly, harmless eccentric, carrying out scientific experiments in the market-place. The Sheriff puts forward a plan to have the Lord Eilmar accused of being a sorcerer, and his lands given over to Lord Giles. Marian tries to help, but Eilmar is arrested and Robin comes to his aid.

3. The Lady-Killer
Air Date: 1959-12-05
Robin is out hunting with Derwent when he sees his old friend Will Scarlett stalking a deer. Will is accompanied by Lady Maud, daughter of De Sarigny, and in possession of an advanced Saracen crossbow that can outshoot a longbow. Accused of kidnapping Lady Maud, he is captured by the Sheriff and sentenced to hang. Scarlet bargains for his life by demonstrating the crossbow.

4. A Touch of Fever
Air Date: 1959-12-12
Sir Nigel, Lady Marian's cousin, returns from the Holy Land with two friends and intends to marry her to obtain her land. Discovering Marian is in league with the outlaws, he threatens to expose her to the Sheriff unless she agrees to marriage. Robin and Sir Nigel's friends have to convince the Sheriff that he is mentally unbalanced with the fever.

5. The Devil You Don't Know
Air Date: 1959-12-19
The Sheriff of Nottingham is preparing to leave for three months' duty in London, and a deputy is to replace him. Sir Alan-a-Daleis missing from Robin's camp and presumed held captive by the Sheriff. Robin and Will Scarlet intercept the Deputy Sheriff and free a prisoner, the mysterious Ralph of Plumtree, who insists on impersonating the Deputy Sheriff to discover if Sir Alan is a prisoner. The Deputy Sheriff lays a trap for both Robin and Marian.

6. The Loaf
Air Date: 1960-01-02
A boy steals a loaf of bread from the Sheriff's men. Friar Tuck gives him sanctuary in the local church, but after 40 days, under the law of sanctuary, the boy will have to leave the country. The Sheriff learns that in London there is a great demand for flour, and high prices are being paid for it. This gives him an idea that will improve his finances - he demands 500 loaves to free the boy.

7. Six Strings to His Bow
Air Date: 1960-01-09
At the 'Blue Boar Inn', Robin meets a strange knight playing a harp — Sir Alan-a-Dale, who is unaware that Prince John has accused him of murder and declared an outlaw. But when a crossbow bolt flies through the window, narrowly missing the knight, Robin thinks he should make his presence known. The Sheriff is hot on Sir Alan's trail, and in warning Sir Alan, Marian is wounded by a crossbow bolt, threatening to reveal her identity to the pursuing Sheriff.

8. Tuck's Love Day
Air Date: 1960-02-27
Friar Tuck is in trouble with his Abbot. He has been unable to collect money for the church. Tuck arbitrates the dispute on Love Day, a day in the year when ecclesiastical law takes precedence. Sir Geoffrey returns from the Crusades and finds the Sheriff has moved the stream that forms the boundary marker of his estate, so that his land now forms part of the Sheriff's own land. Robin and Will Scarlett come to his aid, and manage to breach a dam.

9. A Bushel of Apples
Air Date: 1960-07-17
While Lord Ambrose is away at the Crusade, his bailiff Sir Watkyn of Parstock, has been extorting heavy taxes from the tenants and serfs on his estate. Friar Tuck seeks Robin's help, but is arrested as an outlaw. Robin contacts Father Ignatius, Lord Ambrose's priest, and with his aid puts paid to Watkyns' underhanded schemes.

10. The Truce
Air Date: 1960-07-24
Needing to win an archery tournament against Lord Repton, the Deputy Sheriff parleys a truce with Robin to be his archer for the day. His opponent is Mark Crispin, champion bowman of England.

11. The Debt
Air Date: 1960-07-31
Martin, a former Crusader friend of Robin's who saved his life seven years before at the crusade, masquerades as one of Robin's gang. He begins robbing innocent travellers entering Sherwood forest, including Friar Tuck, and fatally wounds John Dale in his home. Martin wants to join Robin's band, and when he learns that Friar Tuck and Marian know Robin, he has the upper hand. Robin has to make him leave, bearing in mind the debt he owes this man.

12. The Oath
Air Date: 1960-08-07
The Deputy Sheriff suspects Friar Tuck of being in league with the outlaws, so he tries to turn the Archbishop against him. He hatches a plot for the Friar to take an oath in front of the Archbishop to prove that he doesn't consort with the outlaws. Tuck must takes an oath in front of the Archbishop not to reveal the identity or the location of the Sheriff's latest prisoner — an envoy of King Richard about to be hung. Tuck cannot break his oath and tell Robin to save the man, so he uses his cunning instead.

13. The Charm Pedlar
Air Date: 1960-08-14
A charm pedlar arrives in Nottingham. To Robin he seems harmless, but Friar Tuck discovers the man is a trickster, selling the villagers useless potions. Robin thinks of a plan to stop the pedlar's activities. Robin, at the behest of Friar Tuck, disguises himself as a fellow con-man to investigate the peddler's activities and finds himself rounded up with the charm peddler in the Sheriff's dungeon, both to be hanged.

14. Goodbye Little John
Air Date: 1960-08-21
On returning to Sherwood Forest, Little John is angry to discover that his place as Robin's right-hand man has been taken by Will Scarlett. To make matters worse, Will beats John in a wrestling match, and the big man strides off into the forest angrier than ever. The Deputy Sheriff hears of it and plans to take advantage of Little John's discontent.

15. The Reluctant Rebel
Air Date: 1960-08-28
In order to gather first-hand knowledge of outlaw life for a journal he is writing, Sir Geoffrey Claire and his manservant Herbert pose as notorious outlaw Jim Stark and his lieutenant, and join Robin Hood in Sherwood Forest. The situation gets a bit complicated, when the real Jim Stark appears.

16. The Bagpiper
Air Date: 1960-09-04
Duncan of Stoneykirk, the wild Highland clansman, is back in Sherwood Forest. He was rather troublesome on his last visit, not only to his enemies, but also to his friends. He still has an eye for Marian, only this time he has a plan to win a bagpiping contest against Tam McKinnon at the castle of Sir Fulke, or so he claims. Robin, dressed in highland garb and beard, accompanies him, and Duncan's intention is revealed.

17. The Parting Guest
Air Date: 1960-09-11
Still hanging around Robin's camp, Duncan of Stoneykirk turns his attentions to Lady Marian until his lassie Jessie arrives to take Duncan back home. With Duncan refusing to leave Robin, Robin tries to woo Jessie to make him jealous, but it is Marian who is jealous. Robin arranges an archery contest between Marian and Jessie for five gold crowns to set Duncan on the road to Scotland.

18. Hostage for a Hangman
Air Date: 1960-09-18
The Deputy Sheriff tells Robin, during a truce, that he will hang two serfs everyday until Robin gives himself up. Robin calls on Marian's guests, two lords who outrank the Deputy Sheriff, Alford and Beaumont to make the Deputy Sheriff show his true colours by dressing them as serfs and hanging them first.

19. Hue and Cry
Air Date: 1960-09-25
The Deputy Sheriff's is attacked by a masked man and his gold chain of office stolen in Lower Fitzwalter, a village of freemen. At the blacksmith of William, the Deputy Sheriff invokes "hue and cry" under the rule of Frankpledge and, if the attacker cannot be found, nine men from the village will hang.

20. The Champion
Air Date: 1960-10-02
The Deputy Sheriff informs Marian that her father has died in the Holy Land and Prince John has nominated Sir Guy Quentin to take over her estate. Friar Tuck informs Marian her father is alive and she can appeal to the courts. Marian's sixty-year-old uncle Sir Percy pre-empts this by challenging the much younger Sir Quentin to a duel. Robin has other ideas, and tries to convince Sir Quentin that Sir Percy is a fearsome fighter.

21. The Edge and the Point
Air Date: 1960-10-08
Boland, a former Crusader, defeats Will Scarlet and then Robin Hood in a sword fight and is only prevented from killing him by Maid Marian's prowess with the bow. Boland offers his services to the Deputy Sheriff, who makes him his lieutenant and takes sword-fighting lessons so he can kill Robin Hood himself and so take the glory to become Sheriff. Robin Hood accepts the challenge in the hope of revealing the Deputy Sheriff's true colours.

22. A Race Against Time
Air Date: 1960-10-15
Will Scarlet witnesses the murder of an envoy. He and Robin capture Wilfred who had led the envoy into the trap. They discover that the killer was Sir Hartley who intends to kill Constance, Duchess of Brittany, who is taking the King's son, Prince Arthur, to Northumberland to be received as the rightful heir to the throne. Fearing trouble from Prince John, she wants Robin and his men to escort them.

23. The Pharoah Stones
Air Date: 1960-10-22
A pedlar sells Little John 'The Pharaoh Stones' — three dice-like stones, which, he claims, tell the owner his fortune. Little John puts them to the test, and is convinced of their mysterious powers. The outlaw band also become convinced, but the stones bring more than their fair share of trouble to the Greenwood.

24. Bride for an Outlaw
Air Date: 1960-10-29
Sir Bligh Denton, a wealthy merchant, learns that his daughter Judith's suitor, Sir Peter Marston, plans to visit her. Robin, escaping from the Sheriff's men, enters the house and is mistaken for the man. To avoid capture by the Sheriff, Robin is forced into a proxy marriage, performed by Friar Tuck, to Judith.

25. Double Trouble
Air Date: 1960-11-05
Friar Tuck's identical twin brother Edgar returns to Nottingham. The Deputy Sheriff imprisons Tuck and plots a scheme where his brother Edgar is to impersonate him, for the purpose of staging a sermon. He is to confess publicly that he (as 'Friar Tuck') has aided the outlaws, and is to denounce Maid Marian to the Bishop.

26. Trapped
Air Date: 1960-11-12
Robin becomes the latest victim of Sir Hugo DeBask, a lord who arrests travellers through his estate and sets them to work on his lands if they can't pay the fine he imposes at their trial. Looking for him, Marian also falls into the trap. Escape comes from an unexpected quarter.
